West Virginia University Women

The WVU Women’s Rugby Team was re-founded in 2000, after disbanding somewhere in the early 80’s, by a group of girls looking to play rugby at a competitive level in West Virginia. Lindsey Parker was one of the founding members and eventually a coach for the team (and one was also the first players to score a try during the team’s first season). Initially WVU did not find much success on the pitch however they became a tight knit group thanks to the sport’s emphasis on teamwork and camaraderie. The team continued to improve and competed in the D1 Midwest Final Four during the 2003/4 season. Since then, they have carried on the tradition started in 2000 and have continued finding success competing throughout the Midwest and along the East Coast. With alumni of nearly 100 former players, WVU Women’s Rugby continues to grow and show young girls how rugby can be a way of life!
